The Map and Plan Documentation Unit within the Department of City and Regional Planning at Middle East Technical University was first established in the summer of 1995 under the leadership of Çağatay Keskinok, with the contributions of research assistants working under the responsibility of Nil Uzun. The initiative began with the documentation and cataloguing of existing plans and maps within the faculty. Since then, it has evolved through the long-term efforts of the individuals listed below.
