Objective
This project aims to preserve institutional memory and establish a strong resource for research on the history of planning education in Türkiye through the digitization, classification, and open access provision of the archive of the Map and Plan Documentation Unit (HPBB).
At the same time, it seeks to enhance the visibility of the pioneering role of Middle East Technical University in the field of urban planning, as the university celebrates its 70th anniversary in 2026, and to make this unique body of knowledge accessible to a wider public beyond academia.
The project specifically focuses on digitizing significant documents that shed light on the planning processes of Ankara and other cities in Türkiye, and making them accessible through digital archives.
Within the scope of the project, approximately 2,500 materials—including documents, plans, maps, and photographs—belonging to the Map and Plan Documentation Unit of the Department of City and Regional Planning will be digitized and made available as open access resources for students and researchers.
