Murat GÜVENÇ, Assoc. Prof. Dr. (retired in September 2005)
He graduated from the Department of City and Regional Planning at Middle East Technical University (ODTÜ) in 1976. He served as a Research and Teaching Assistant in the same department. He pursued his Master's degree in Belgium. He worked as a Research Assistant in the Department of City and Regional Planning at ODTÜ. He earned his Master's degree in 1979 and completed his doctoral thesis in 1992 at the same department. In 1994, he was appointed Associate Professor. Güvenç taught courses such as CRP 301-302 Planning Studio V-VI, CRP 242 Urban Geography, and SA 502 Quantitative Techniques in Settlement Archaeology in the Department of City and Regional Planning, as well as Urban Studies Workshop courses at the graduate level.
He retired from ODTÜ in 2005. His research includes articles, papers, and empirical studies on metropolitan area planning in Ankara, urban models, industrial site selection theories, and the social and industrial geography of Istanbul. He is currently working on the preparation of atlases for topics such as "Neighborhoods of Istanbul in the 1990-2000 Censuses," "Internal Migration Atlas of Turkey, 1990-2000," "Streets of Istanbul in 1910 and 1922," and "Change in Turkey’s Electoral Geography: 1950-2007" at Istanbul Bilgi University.
