Prof. Dr., METU Department of City and Regional Planning

Received a Bacheor's degree from METU Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences in 1961, she has her Master's degree from METU Department of City and Regional Planning 1964. In 1967, she received a Master's degree in Regional Science from the Department of Regional Science Development at the University of Pennsylvania. From 1963 to 1971, she served as an expert planner at the Ministry of Development and Housing, the Office of Regional Planning. In 1971, she began working as a lecturer at METU, Department of City and Regional Planning. He received her doctorate in 1977, her position as an associate professor in 1982 and her professorship in 1989.

From 1991 to 1994, she served as the Head of the Department of Urban Planning; and from 1994 to 2000, she was the Chair of the Department of City and Regional Planning. She was also a member of the Board of the Faculty of Architecture from 1991 to 2001, and from 2002 to 2005. In addition to her publications examining various aspects of the problems in squatter areas, she received many awards and project incentives. Some of the awards are the OECD Award at the University of Pennsylvania in 1966; the TÜBITAK Award in 1981 for the project entitled "The Evolution of Integration in Ankara between 1923 and 1960"; the Sedat Simavi Prize in Social Sciences in 1986; the Urban Housing for Low-Income Groups Research Award by the Prime Ministry's Public Housing Authority in 1991.

In 1978 and 1981, METU Faculty of Architecture has published her books entitled "Bütünleşmemiş Kentli Nüfus Sorunu" and "Gecekondu: ‘Çevre’ İşilerin Mekanı". In addition, there are books entitled “Ankara Kentinde Gecekondu Gelişimi; 1923-1960”, published by Ankara Kent-Koop in 1985, followed by “Ankara’da Gecekondu Oluşum Süreci ve Ruhsatlı Konut Sunumu”, published by Batıbirlik in 1996, and “1980 Sonrasında Ruhsatsız Konut Yapımı", published again in 1966 by the T.R. Prime Minitry's Housing Development Administration.
