Topic: Affordable Housing for a Growing Senior Population: A Planning Challenge at the Nexus of Land Policy and Housing Policy
This seminar will be delivered by Dr. Deniz Ay (University of Bern). The seminar will seek an answer to the question, “Who is responsible for planning and providing affordable, age-appropriate housing in an aging society?” and will examine planning practices at the intersection of land and housing policies in line with the goal of "aging in place". The seminar will be conducted in English. All interested parties are welcome.
Dr. Deniz Ay
Dr. Deniz Ay is a Senior Researcher and Lecturer at the Institute of Geography, University of Bern. She holds a PhD in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and an MSc in Economics from the London School of Economics. Her research focuses on planning and the governance of essential urban resources needed to sustain everyday life. Her work examines land and housing policy, care, demographic ageing, and urban commons through the lenses of political ecology and new institutionalism. At the University of Bern, Ay conducts research within international research projects, and teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in urban planning and urban political economy.
