A. Nusret HIZIR, Prof., Part-time Inst. (1889-1980)
Studied physics, philosophy and music in Germany. Entered İstanbul University, Faculty of Literature in 1934 as the assistant of Prof. Hans Reichenbach. Worked at the Turkish Historical Society between 1937-1942. With the encouragement of Hasan Ali Yücel, became associate professor in 1947. Appointed to Ankara University, Faculty of Language, History and Geography. Received professorship in 1954. Taught philosophy at Ecole Normale Superieur in Paris (1963). Worked at Ankara University, Faculty of Language, History and Geography untill 1968. Has made remarkable contributions to the formation of philophical conception in Turkey. Translated works of Erasmus and Nietzsche to Turkish. As a part-time instructor taught logic and philosophy at Ankara University (Faculty of Political Sciences), Middle East Technical University (Department of City and Regional Planning) and Hacettepe University. Elected as the Honorary Chairman by the Turkish Philosophical Society in 1979. Won the Turkish Language Association Essay Award in 1977 with his book Felsefe Yazıları [Writings in Philosophy].
