Topic: Design Tools: An Introduction
As part of the Tuesday Talk Series, Dr. Christian Gänshirt, who is an architect and educator based in Berlin, gave an online presentation titled "Design Tools: An Introduction".
The presentation involves:
- "Fundamentals": understanding of design and providing an overview of the current design thinking
- "Tools": the modes of operation, their use, and ongoing development
- "Practice": promising design practices, digital, research-based, and social design, which hold keys to achieving a more sustainable design of the built environment
Christian Gänshirt
Dr. Christian Gänshirt is an architect and educator based in Berlin, Germany. He was a Senior Associate Professor and Master Program Director at Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University in Suzhou, China. He has been visiting professor at Kassel University and The University of Hong Kong, and taught at Virginia Tech, Berlin University of the Arts, Hanover University, and the Brandenburg University of Technology, where received his Ph.D. (Dr.-Ing.) for a dissertation on design theory. He graduated from Karlsruhe University, Germany, and studied with Luigi Snozzi at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, Switzerland. He worked with Álvaro Siza and José Paulo dos Santos in Oporto, Portugal, and has published on architecture and urban design since 1993. He is registered and licensed by the Berlin Chamber of Architects since 1996, when he set up his own practice. Christian Gänshirt is lecturing and a visiting critic at architecture schools international.
