Tarık OKYAY, Inst.Dr. (1943- 1981)
Studied civil engineering at Robert College in Istanbul. Received master's degree from the Department of City and Regional Planning at METU. His master's thesis, "Alternatif Boğaziçi Geçişlerinde Kullanıcı Yararları" [User Benefits in Alternative Bosphourus Passages] is a modelling study on social impacts of Bosphourus Bridge. Worked at State Planning Organization. In this institution, he took part in the reserach study of Hierarchy of Settlements in Turkey. At State Planning Organization his study on harbours was published. In 1969, entered METU Department of City and Regional Planning as teaching assistant. Received master's degree from the Department of Transportation and Environmental Sciences at Birmingham University. In the Department of Geography at Bristol University, prepared PhD thesis on the "Railroad in the East-Anglia and Population Development in 19th Century". From 1975 onwards taught transportation planning and spatial statistics in the Department of City and Regional Planning at METU. In 1979, received PhD from the Department of Geography at Bristol University. Worked at METU untill 1981.
