She graduated with a degree in Architecture from the Faculty of Architecture at METU in 1963. That same year, she began working as an Assistant in the Department of City and Regional Planning at the Faculty. She received her Master's degree in Urban Design from Washington University (St. Louis, USA) in 1965, and her Doctorate from the Faculty of Architecture at Istanbul Technical University (ITU) in 1978. Between 1977 and 1979, she served as the Chair of the Department of City and Regional Planning at METU. She was appointed Associate Professor in 1988 and Professor in 1993. She retired in 2007.
