He graduated from the Department of City and Regional Planning at METU (Middle East Technical University) in 1982. He completed his Master's studies in the same department in 1984. In 1991, he received his PhD from University College London, Bartlett School of Architecture and Planning. He has taught the CRP 301-302 Planning Studio course.
