Numan TUNA, Prof. Dr. (retired in October 2013)
He completed the Bachelor's program in City and Regional Planning at METU in 1971. He worked as a research assistant in the same department and later as an urban planner at private planning offices in Ankara. From 1974 to 1979, he worked as a city planner at the Ministry of Urban Development and Housing, where he directed database and master planning studies for the İzmir Metropolitan Area planning efforts at the İzmir Master Plan Bureau. He completed his Master's degree in City and Regional Planning at METU in 1978.
In 1979, he began working as an assistant at the Department of Historical Environmental Protection at Ege University, and in 1981, he joined the City and Regional Planning Department. In 1984, he earned his Ph.D. from the Institute of Science at Dokuz Eylül University. Between 1987 and 1992, he worked as a faculty member at the Department of City and Regional Planning at King Abdulaziz University in Saudi Arabia. From 1992 to 2013, he worked as a faculty member in the City and Regional Planning Department at METU, where he also served as the Chair of the Settlement Archaeology Department and the Director of the Environmental Values Research Center.
Tuna taught courses such as CRP 211-212 The City in History, CRP 417 Issues in Urban Archaeology, SA 510 Ancient Settlement Archaeology, SA 560 Advanced Theory in Spatial Archaeology, CP 701 Cultural Heritage Management, and CP 702 Urban Conservation. His research focused on historical environments, conservation planning, and spatial archaeology.
