Ali TÜREL, Prof. Dr. (retired in June 2013)
He graduated from the Department of City and Regional Planning at METU in 1968. He worked as an urban planner at the Ankara Master Plan Bureau. In 1979, he completed his Ph.D. at the London School of Economics and Political Science. He worked as a doctoral assistant at Ege University and as a visiting faculty member at Iowa State University. In 1987, he became an Associate Professor, and in 1993, he was promoted to Professor.
He served as a faculty member in the City and Regional Planning Department at METU from 1981 to 2013. Between 1994 and 1995, he held the position of Deputy Director of the Prime Ministry's Mass Housing Administration. He also held various administrative roles, including Vice Chair of the department from 1982 to 1988, Secretary-General of the Housing Research Center (KAM) from 1992 to 2002, Vice Dean from 1997 to 2000, and Department Chair from 2003 to 2006.
Türel has taught courses such as CP 501-502 Planning Studio I-II, CRP 537 Urban Property Planning and Development, CRP 471 Principles of Housing, and CRP 332 Planning Economics. His main research areas include housing supply and demand, housing policies, urban commercial services, spatial mobility, and transportation.
